What Needs To Happen For Printing Companies in London To Survive The Economic Downturn?

The past few years, five to be precise, haven’t been to great for the printing industry but last Thursday saw a step in the general right direction for printing companies in London. George Osbourne, gentleman who has been much mentioned in our previous blog article, can breathe a sigh of relief, albeit a small one.

The ONS (Office of National Statistics) release the UK’s GDP quarterly figures and the good news is that we haven’t entered the much feared triple dip recession. Whilst some commentators can say that it’s not good enough, we here at Brightside Print & Design are pleased that at least the news is positive. The opposite outcome would have been a kick in the teeth for everybody. It’s no secret that things aren’t great but the country is sticking to what it does best, keeping calm and carrying on, invoking the traditional stiff upper lip. We’re getting on with it. We’re getting our heads and muddling on. One only has to look across the waters at Europe and see that our neighbours are fairing a lot worse. General punditry consensus points its finger at Europe for being the main reason why our economy appears to be stuck in the mud and there’s a lot of weight to that argument. After all, they were/are our biggest customer for trade and exports. If they’re not buying our goods and services because they’ve run out of money then of course it’s going to have a considerable knock on effect to our economy. Hence why you see our major politicians and members of the Royal Family traipsing around selling our services to the world. They’re doing all they can, but are you or I?

There’s a whole world out there beyond Europe and it needs to know we’re here. Britain needs to sell to the World’s major and emerging economies. That’s the only way we’re going to drag our punch drunk economy out of this pickle. Printing companies in London are primed and ready to assist your organisation in publicising your presence.

It’s no secret that we have the structure in place to make Britain great again. Maybe we need to sort out a few issues with our airport infrastructure, whether its to extend Heathrow or build Boris Island, that’s for the governing bodies to decide. A decision has to be made though, and promptly. That’s one thing this country does struggle with, indecision. We suffer from a curse of red tape. Once we start to sort that out, hopefully the ball will begin to roll.

Things are in place for the World’s businesses to settle here. Obviously, London is our trump card. Not only does it appear to be a safe haven for people’s money which is why house prices are flying through the roof but is a desirable place to live. It’s a hot pot of all of the world’s cultures. Besides the fact that France has a very unsympathetic tax rate, it’s no coincidence that London has such a high French population, numerically it would make London France’s 6th biggest city. There’s a higher population in London than there are is Bordeaux.

Fortunately for Brightside we’re situated in the heart of this wonderful city and we’re open for business. We’re ready to do our part, all we need to do is help you to sell your wares to the world. Whatever your industry, you’ll need something designed or printed, whether it be as simple as business cards or something more complex like a brochure. Get in touch with our team and we can take on the World together.

Promotional Merchandise – A Brief History Part 1

http://tinyurl.com/6l65br2 During the 18th century the first trace of promotional merchandise appeared. A cigar manufacturer that wanted to increase his sales had the brilliant idea to customise his cigar rings. “Mr X wishes you a happy new year” was consequently the first message of the history of promotional products.

An interesting anecdote in this rich history regards the creation of the word “gadget”, still used today to designate a small promotional item. This word would be an adaptation by the Americans of the

name of Mr Gaget, a Frenchman involved with the construction of the Statue of Liberty. He is said to have sold miniature version of it in New-York, with his name on it. Everybody wanted a “Gaget”, or gadget, and the word became so popular that it is still used today.

At Brightside, the world of promotional merchandise is limitless, from umbrellas to twisty USB sticks!

Rendez-vous soon for the continuation of the story. We will see what consequences the 2nd World War had on the promotional merchandise…
