Whether you are looking to improve the look of your current CMS or looking for a more simplistic CMS platform without some of the complicated integrations, at Brightside we will offer you the most cost effective solution - dependent on variables such how much traffic you expect/aim to achieve, security requirements and user friendliness. The majority of small/medium size businesses use WordPress due to all the built-in plugins, but you may wonder why larger corporations tend not to? It's mostly due to the stability of CMS, the likes of Joomla and CMSMS do not have their plugins needing constant upgrades, or in many circumstances disappearing altogether which does happen with WordPress. Having said that, in recent years WordPress is becoming more and more reliable and very typical for our web devlopment services.
The list goes on and on, and its often a debate in our offices, of preferences. As we cannot forget CakePHP, as used by Deloitte. It’s a simple CMS system that is based on the CakePHP framework, which is what we use for bespoke development. Then you have Laravel which has been around since around 2012, so is newer, but still reasonably established, and has recently become very popular. It’s the current ‘cool’ framework that’s on everyone’s lips. Although, Laravel is just another PHP framework. It’s not a CMS in any way, so everything we do with it would be bespoke. In our opinion CakePHP has better security built in (so less work to ensure things are secure), it’s audited by the Mozilla Secure Open Source program, and has better routing options (allowing for better control of SEO URLs etc.).
Finally, for the likes of Amnesty website, requiring security, high levels of traffic and advanced modules our preference of Enterprise CMS is Drupal. It is widely known for its capabilities of multichannel, personalised experiences and ability to support thousands of pages and thousands of users. Again, we can work with most of the Enterprise CMS systems, but due to some our client's requiring a high level of security, it's our go to choice.
